Fatorda: Goa Forward Party president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said he has urged the state government to address several long-pending infrastructure issues in his constituency, including the proposed shifting of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), delays in sports facilities and the incomplete Margao wholesale fish market.
In a post on X, Sardesai said he met BJP MLA and chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Michael Lobo, who was in Fatorda for an inauguration, and discussed practical solutions to various civic issues affecting residents.
Sardesai claimed that the award-winning ITI at Multipurpose Borda was reportedly being shifted and suggested that the government instead establish a higher education college at the site to provide affordable and quality education to students from Margao and Fatorda.
He also pointed out that the promised football and cricket grounds in the constituency were yet to be completed and said he had urged Lobo to ensure that the projects were expedited. Sardesai said he would once again write to the government on the issue.
The Fatorda MLA also flagged the delay in commissioning the Margao wholesale fish market, alleging that the project’s cost had escalated from Rs 13.5 crore to nearly Rs 32 crore while it was still not fully operational.
He further said the market lacked the promised cold storage facility, which, according to him, had been one of the reasons cited by the government for approving the increase in the project’s cost.
“Fatorda deserves timely delivery of promised infrastructure, accountability in public spending, and development that genuinely benefits its people,” Sardesai said, adding that he would continue to pursue the issues until they were resolved.
