Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has initiated alliance discussions with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) ahead of the upcoming Goa Assembly elections, while continuing to keep the door open for the Goa Forward Party (GFP).
Speaking to reporters, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said the Congress has already held preliminary discussions with Goa AAP chief Valmiki Naik and RGP President Viresh Borkar, both of whom have responded positively to the idea of a broader opposition alliance.
Chodankar said that, as the principal opposition party in Goa, the Congress has taken the initiative to bring together all like-minded political parties to present a united challenge in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
“We want to fight the upcoming Goa Assembly elections as a united opposition,” he said.
The Congress leader added that formal alliance talks will commence shortly, during which key issues, including seat-sharing arrangements, will be discussed.
Referring to the Goa Forward Party, Chodankar said the Congress remains willing to continue alliance discussions. However, the GFP has temporarily suspended talks with the party.
“We are waiting for the GFP to lift the suspension of talks. Once that happens, we will begin discussions,” Chodankar said.
The development comes as opposition parties explore the possibility of forging a common platform against the ruling BJP ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
