Panaji: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged the Goa Police to take the lead in the national campaign against narcotics, expressing confidence that the force can emerge as the country’s top police unit in tackling drug-related crimes.
“Considering the kind of performance the Goa Police has delivered in several areas, I expect the Goa Police to become number one in the country in tackling narcotics and remain at the forefront. This is both my expectation and my request,” Shah said while addressing the Goa Police President’s Colours Award ceremony.
Shah also praised the Goa Police for launching an AI-based call agent for the 1930 cyber fraud helpline, describing it as a pioneering initiative that places Goa ahead of other states.
“The Goa Police has taken a step forward by launching an AI-based call agent for the 1930 helpline. In this regard, the Goa Police is one step ahead of the rest of the states in India,” he said.
He noted that the AI-powered system can register complaints in multiple languages and forward them to the appropriate authorities, making it particularly beneficial for tourists visiting Goa from across India and abroad.
The Union Minister further lauded the Goa Police for reducing the response time under the 112 emergency service from 18 minutes to eight minutes and expressed confidence that it would be brought down to less than six minutes in the near future.
Highlighting criminal justice reforms, Shah said Goa Police had consistently ranked among the top-performing forces in implementing the new criminal justice codes, achieving a performance rate of 93.38 per cent and currently holding the second position nationally.
He also said the force had recorded a significant improvement in its conviction rate and secured the second position in the country in dealing with crimes against women and girls.
Shah commended the Goa Police for its eight decades of service, saying its commitment to peace, service and justice had helped keep the state safe and secure.
