Panaji: With the Dussehra weekend approaching and Diwali holidays scheduled for early November, the state tourism department expects an increase in visitor arrivals, supported by the reopening of beach shacks and improved air connectivity.
Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte said Goa was looking forward to a vibrant festive season, with visitors being encouraged to explore its heritage, cuisine, culture and hinterland experiences in addition to its beaches.
He said the state was focusing on strengthening its year-round tourism appeal, improving visitor experiences and creating opportunities for local businesses and communities.
Cruz Cardozo, president of the Shack Owners’ Welfare Society, said most beach shacks were operational and ready to welcome tourists for the festive and winter seasons.
He urged visitors to respect local culture and communities, follow the law and help keep beaches clean and safe.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the department was preparing for the festive period with an emphasis on safety, responsible tourism and a seamless visitor experience.
He said improved air and road connectivity, coupled with diverse tourism offerings, was encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond the conventional beach circuit.
Goa has two airports — Goa International Airport at Dabolim and Manohar International Airport at Mopa — which provide connectivity to domestic and international destinations. Airlines are expanding services and frequencies as part of their winter schedules. Akasa Air has announced direct flights between Chandigarh and Goa from December.
The state is also promoting heritage walks in Fontainhas and Old Goa, culinary experiences, spice plantations, river cruises, wellness retreats and hinterland tourism to attract visitors seeking varied holiday experiences.
Wildlife conservationist and Mrugaya Xpeditions founder Parag Rangnekar said tourists could combine birdwatching, guided forest walks, village visits and coastal excursions to experience Goa’s biodiversity and local communities.
The anticipated rise in tourist activity is expected to benefit hotels, homestays, restaurants, beach shacks, taxi operators, local guides, artisans and other tourism-related businesses.
Goa’s tourism industry is entering its peak winter season, with hospitality and tourism operators preparing for increased visitor movement over the coming weeks.
