Ponda: The resignation of Roy Ravi Naik from the post of councillor of the Ponda Municipal Council has opened up new political possibilities in the constituency.
While Roy’s elder brother, Ritesh Naik, was chosen as the BJP candidate for the Ponda by-elections that were stalled at the last minute, Roy continues to be a supporter of the BJP.
In recent days, Roy has claimed that he wants to contest from the Marcaim constituency, which was earlier represented by his father.
The political equations in Marcaim currently remain different, with Sudin Dhavalikar maintaining a firm grip over the constituency.
There are also strong rumours that Dhavalikar wants to field his son, Mithil Dhavalikar, on a BJP ticket from the constituency, while he himself may contest from Ponda.
Roy’s resignation has opened up new political possibilities. However, the real question remains: Why would he have to resign from the post of councillor if he is considering contesting the Assembly election?
