Panaji: The Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, will be on two-day visit to Goa from September 2 to interact with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and engage with youth and future voters as part of efforts to strengthen the electoral process at the grassroots level.
The visit, scheduled for September 2 and 3, will also include a regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) and the ECINET platform at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao in South Goa, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, said in a press note.
Kumar will interact with BLOs on September 2, providing them an opportunity to share their experiences, best practices and innovative initiatives undertaken at the grassroots level, CEO said in the media release.
The interaction is aimed at facilitating dialogue on making the electoral process more effective, accessible and transparent by incorporating the experiences and suggestions of BLOs, it said.
On September 3, a conference on ELCs and ECINET will be held, along with an interaction with Electoral Literacy Clubs on their role in promoting an inclusive and informed electoral process.
The ELCs will disseminate information on various stages of the electoral process, including voter registration, polling and counting, besides creating awareness about the ECINET app and other ECI initiatives.
Presentations will be made on the vision, mission, key features and operational framework of ELC 2.0, as well as on the Indian electoral process and the ECINET platform.
Three live demonstration centres have been set up at the conference venue to provide participants with practical information on voter registration, voting and counting processes.
A special exhibition showcasing various initiatives, innovations and achievements of the Election Commission will also be organised.
The delegation led by Kumar will include Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Pawan Sharma, Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal, Director General (IT) Seema Khanna, Deputy Director (Media) Apurva Singh and other officials.
The conference will bring together election officials, BLOs, ELC coordinators, educational institutions and other stakeholders involved in voter education and electoral processes.
The visit is expected to strengthen coordination between the ECI and Goa’s electoral machinery while recognising the role of BLOs and ELCs in promoting participatory democracy, the press note said.
