Mumbai: Mumbai’s N M Joshi Marg police have registered a case against two persons and others for allegedly demanding crores of rupees in extortion by threatening to disrupt work on the ‘One Goa’ project being undertaken at Karapur in Goa.
Sources stated that both the persons named in the FIR were taken into custody by Mumbai police.
According to the FIR registered by the police on August 27, the complainant, Bhushan Ramesh Patil (39), is associated with the company concerned, whose headquarters is located in Lower Parel, Mumbai. The complaint states that the company has been undertaking various housing projects under the name ‘One Goa’ in Bicholim taluka of Goa since March 2024.
According to the FIR, towards the end of April 2026, Siddhesh Jana Tari and Pritesh Salgaonkar, along with three others, went to the company’s project site at Karapur. They allegedly accused the company of treating local people unfairly and threatened to stop the project work, the complaint said.
The persons then allegedly threatened company officials and demanded Rs 3 crore each. Senior officials of the company held discussions with them in an attempt to resolve the matter. Subsequently, both accused allegedly demanded around Rs 3 crore each, the complaint stated.
According to the FIR, Rs 2 lakh each was paid to Siddhesh Jana Tari and Pritesh Salgaonkar on May 1, 2026. The complainant claimed that further amounts were paid as demanded, with a total of Rs 34 lakh allegedly given to Siddhesh Tari and Rs 7 lakh to Pritesh Salgaonkar.
Meanwhile, on August 12, while the complainant was at the company’s Mumbai office, he allegedly received a threatening WhatsApp call. The caller demanded another Rs 10 lakh to ensure that no obstruction was caused to the work on the company’s ‘One Goa’ project, the FIR stated.
According to the complaint, the accused have demanded a total of Rs 6 crore in extortion from April 2026 till date, of which Rs 34 lakh was allegedly paid to Siddhesh Tari and Rs 7 lakh to Pritesh Salgaonkar.
Police have registered a case under Sections 308(2), 308(5), 3(5), 61(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched an investigation. The probe has been handed over to Police Sub-Inspector Sachin Babanrao Khot.
