Margao: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday joined the party’s Goy Rakhon Yatra in Margao town of South Goa on the concluding day of the statewide outreach campaign ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Gandhi arrived at Dabolim Airport on Sunday afternoon, following which he proceeded to Margao, where a public meeting was scheduled to be held.
The Congress leader walked for over two kilometres through the streets of Margao along with party leaders and workers before joining the public meeting at the Margao Cricket Club (MCC) Ground.
He was joined by AICC Goa Desk incharge Manikrao Thakare, co incharge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Goa Pradesh Congress committee president Girish Chodankar and others.
The 27-day-long Goy Rakhon Yatra, which began in Panaji on September 22, covered all 40 Assembly constituencies in the coastal state. Led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, the campaign sought to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.
Congress has projected the yatra, whose name translates to a campaign to protect Goa, as a movement to safeguard the state’s land, environment, cultural heritage and identity.
During the campaign, the party raised concerns over land conversion, alleged land grabbing, unemployment, corruption, public safety and the preservation of Goa’s distinctive social and cultural identity. It also sought to engage with local communities and bring development-related concerns to the forefront of the political debate.
