Panaji: Goa BJP president Damodar Naik on Monday accused the Congress of being jealous of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work ethic and described Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge as a “frustrated soul” following his remarks against the Prime Minister.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Naik said the Congress was losing its political relevance in Goa and across the country. He alleged that the opposition party was frustrated and making such statements against Modi out of jealousy over his work ethic.

“Congress is finished in Goa and is also vanishing across the country. They are frustrated and jealous of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who works for more than 14 hours a day,” Naik said.

Condemning Kharge’s remarks, the Goa BJP chief said the Congress was no stranger to making statements against Modi. He alleged that Kharge had lost control over his words out of frustration.

“Kharge is a frustrated soul. He has no control over what he speaks,” Naik said.

He added that such remarks by Congress leaders often prompted BJP workers to mobilise in large numbers against the opposition party, claiming that the statements ultimately benefited the BJP politically.

Meanwhile, Naik said BJP national president Nitin Nabin would arrive in Goa on Tuesday for a two-day visit.

During the visit, the party’s state executive committee will meet at the BJP headquarters, where several political and organisational resolutions are expected to be adopted, he said.
