Panaji: Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar on Sunday resigned as a member of legislative assembly, ahead of his entry in Congress party.
Sanguem MLA Gaonkar tendered his resignation to Speaker of Goa legislative Assembly. With the resignation of Gaonkar, the strength of Goa Legislative Assembly has been reduced to 33.
“I have tendered my resignation as MLA. I would be joining Congress party soon to contest from Sanguem constituency,” said Gaonkar.
Earlier, Congress MLAs Luizinho Faleiro and Ravi Naik, Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte, BJP MLA Alina Saldanha, Goa Forward Party MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and NCP MLA Churchill Alemao have resigned from the Assembly.
