Panaji: Goa Police follows a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and has initiated both legal and departmental action against Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikas Deykar and others accused in the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl, Director General of Police Alok Kumar said on Saturday.

The DGP’s statement comes amid public outrage over allegations that the 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted inside the Crime Branch office at Ribandar, raising serious concerns about the conduct of personnel entrusted with protecting citizens.

Kumar said the police department would not tolerate misconduct and that action had been initiated against the accused under the law as well as departmental procedures.

Old Goa police have registered an FIR against Deykar and a woman identified as Ranjini Palyekar in connection with the alleged sexual assault. The woman has been accused of facilitating the offences.

According to the complaint, the alleged incidents took place on July 25 and October 27 this year at the Crime Branch premises in Ribandar. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to media reports, the minor had approached the Childline helpline with a grievance, which was subsequently forwarded to Deykar. She later lodged a complaint alleging that the inspector sexually assaulted her on two occasions at the Crime Branch office.

As the allegations pertained to incidents at the Crime Branch premises, the case was transferred to Old Goa police for investigation.
