Panaji: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Tuesday predicted that CM Pramod Sawant will delay in locking down the state by atleast a week to save himself from being targeted for issuing lockdown immediately after the elections.

Khaunte was referring to the elections in five municipal councils, the results of which were announced on Monday. BJP had won in three out of five municipal councils.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday had expressed necessity of at least one month long lockdown in the state considering the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

On Tuesday, Khaunte tweeted .@DrPramodPSawant will delay Lockdown by atleast a week just to save himself from being targeted for issuing #Lockdown immediately after election results and thus the hints of imminent lockdown trickle from HM”

“Why play hide-n-seek risking more Goan lives when immediate Lokdown is need of the hour?,” Khaunte questioned in another tweet.

Goa had reported 2321  new infections on Monday while 38 people had died due to the COVID-19 infection.
