Panaji: Goa witnessed pre-monsoon shower even as India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Orange alert for the coastal state, expecting very heavy to heavy rains.
The state has been receiving pre monsoon showers since the night of Monday, which has continued during the entire day on Tuesday.
In a bulletin issued on Tuesday evening, the IMD has said that very heavy to heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorm and winds speed of 50-60 kilometres per hour gusting to 70 kilometres per hour is very likely to occur at a few places over North and South Goa for next 24 hours.
The Orange alert has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday by the IMD.
On Monday, Sanguem taluka in South Goa received highest, that is 68.5 mm of rains during the entire day, followed by 40 mm at Quepem, located in the same district.
Canacona taluka of South Goa received 12.8 mm rains on Monday and on the same day, 12.4 mm of rains was received by Pernem taluka in North Goa.
The capital city of Panaji received 2.4 mm rains followed by Mormugao (South Goa) and Old Goa (North Goa) which received 0.4 mm rainfall each.
