Govt to divert District mineral fund for creating COVID-19 hospital infra: CM

Panaji: Goa government will divert Rs 52 crore from its district mineral fund to set up facilities required for COVID-19 hospital, chief minister Pramod Sawant said.

Sawant told reporters that the state has Rs 180 crore in the district mineral fund which was collected from the mining activity. “We will be using Rs 52 crore from the fund for setting up facilities including COVID-19 hospital,” he said.

The chief minister said that the central government has already permitted the state governments to utilize the fund for fighting back Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Sawant said that the condition of all the five positive patients is stable. He said that the testing facility of the samples collected from suspected coronavirus patients at Goa medical college and hospital has started functioning from Monday onwards.

“We will be able to get the testing done in the state itself. By Monday morning, the results of all the pending samples would be available,” he said.

Sawant said that he had spoken to his counterpart in Karnataka requesting him to allow trucks carrying essentials from their state to Goa, for which he has agreed.

The chief minister said that there has been shortage of medicines in some parts of the state due to which the Food and Drugs Administration department has asked the wholesalers to release the stock to retailers.
