Goa to achieve hundred per cent literacy by December 19, next year: CM

Panaji: Chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that the coastal state aims to attain hundred per cent literacy rate by December 19, 2025, with the involvement of community and local panchayats.

Addressing a webinar on Swayampurna Goa on Saturday, Sawant said that the state also target to cover all the farmers under central government’s Kissan Credit Card, Kissan Soil Card and Kissan Vima Card.

The chief minister said that Goa aims to have 100 per cent literacy rate by December 19, next year.

“I appeal the community and all the panchayats to work towards achieving this goal. Not a single person should be left illiterate,” he said.

December 19 is a celebrated as State’s Liberation Day annually to mark the freedom from 450-year-old colonial role in the year 1961. As per 2011 census, Goa’s literacy rate is 88.70 per cent.

The chief minister said “Kerala claims to have achieved 100 per cent literacy, but practically, it does not look like.” He said that Goa should strive to have hundred per cent literacy in real sense.

Talking about the farmers, the chief minister said that all the farmers should be hundred per cent coverage for the central government initiatives like Kissan Credit Card, Kissan Soil Card and Kissan Vima card.

He said that all the panchayats should put up the board specifying the number of farmers in their respective areas.

Sawant hailed Swayampurna mitras (the officers under Swayampurna Goa scheme) for helping to achieve 100 per cent saturation of central government schemes in the state.
