Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday credited the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for contributing to the overall development of the coastal state.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Sawant said that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last 12 years has contributed immensely to all sectors in the state, including infrastructure.
He said that during this period, 299 km of National Highways were constructed, while Rs 999 crore was spent on the enhancement of 12.7 km of roads under the Port Connectivity Initiative in Vasco town.
He said that an airport link road was constructed at Mopa in North Goa at a cost of Rs 1,183 crore.
On the railway front, he said that 24 kilometres of new tracks were laid, while 164 kilometres of railway lines were electrified.
In addition, he said, two Vande Bharat routes were operationalised between Madgaon–Mumbai and Mangaluru–Madgaon.
The Chief Minister said that under the Amrit Stations Initiative, the railway stations at Madgaon, Sanvordem, and Vasco da Gama have been selected for world-class development.
On the tourism front, he said that Rs 197 crore was sanctioned under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, which was utilised to develop Fort Aguada and the Dona Paula Jetty.
The Chief Minister said that the National Institute of Technology has been established in Goa with 40 per cent reservation for Goan students. Besides, he said, the National Institute of Water Sports has been established to boost sports training and water tourism skills.
Sawant said that the All India Institute of Ayurveda was established at a cost of Rs 302 crore.
On the economic front, Sawant said that under PM Jan Dhan Yojana, a total of 2.27 lakh bank accounts were opened, while under PM Mudra Yojana, more than Rs 5.78 thousand crore was disbursed to small businesses.
