Panaji: The Health Department has formed a dedicated committee of senior expert doctors from various interdisciplinary departments, which will be stationed round the clock at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to manage five critical patients who were injured during the temple stampede in North Goa.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that a meeting was held during the day with State Health Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra, Dean GMCH Dr. Shivanand Bandekar, Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajesh Patil, OSD Dr. Rajnanda Desai, HODs of key departments, and Advisor to the Health Minister, Frazella De Araujo, to review critical patient care at Goa Medical College.

He said that during the meeting, it was decided that a dedicated committee of senior expert doctors from various interdisciplinary departments will be stationed round the clock to manage the five critical patients currently admitted. “Point-of-care management will be ensured for the comfort and well-being of these patients,” he added.

The minister said that after the incident during the early hours of Saturday, a green corridor was promptly created—without disrupting the normal functioning of the casualty at GMC—to directly route these patients to the Trauma ICU.

“Investigations were conducted immediately, and treatment was initiated at the earliest. The swift response and seamless coordination between the teams at DHS and GMC has been commendable,” he said.

The minister said that he will be personally monitoring every patient alongside Secretary of Health Arun Kumar Mishra, Dean Dr. Bandekar, and MS Dr. Rajesh Patil.

He said that at present, 13 patients are being treated at GMC. Every step is being taken to provide them with the best possible care, he added.
