Panaji: Goa Forward Party on Friday submitted memorandum to Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik seeking to rescue several thousand Goan seafarers who are stranded at different locations including ships across the globe.

GFP Chief Vijai Sardesai, in a memorandum submitted to the Governor, demanded that  Goa Government should press the External Affairs Ministry to immediately conduct a risk assessment survey  through their concerned Embassies/Consulates and prepare a viable rescue plan  with the help of the military experts, if needed.

He said that GFP understand that most of the Cruise/Shipping Companies are ready to arrange for Chartered Flights to evacuate their personnel but are frustrated with the unresponsive Indian Consular authorities.

“GFP demands that the Goa Government should request the Central Government to declare Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) as also a disembarkation port with quarantine facilities provided only for Goans,” he added.

GFP has said “in the meantime, the Goa Government should urgently prepare adequate quarantine facilities, requisitioning, if needed, even Stadia, Schools, Community Halls, etc. to accommodate the returning Seafarers who understandably will have to be graded for the risk factor and accordingly quarantined with a graded plan in place.”

As per state government there are around 7,000 Goan Seafarers who are stranded at different locations across globe.
