Panaji: The formal function organized to inaugurate new state headquarters for the Bharatiya Janata Party had to be cancelled at the last minute due to Building collapse tragedy in New Delhi, even as Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the building on Sunday.
Shah who is on three-day-long visit to Goa visited the newly constructed party hadquarters at Chimbel village near Panaji on Sunday and inaugurated it. While the formal function was going on, chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the curtailment of the function due to collapse of a building in New Delhi.
After singing Vande Mataram and National Anthem, the program was curtailed. “Since there is a tragedy in new Delhi, we have decided not to go ahead with the function,” Sawant said,adding that Amit Shah had given best wishes to the workers on the inauguration of a new office building.
Several leaders including BJP Goa President Damodar Naik, Union Minister Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade were present for the event.
Talking to reporters, Sawant paid homage to those who lost their lives in Delhi building tragedy. He said that the efforts are going on to rescue all those who were buried in the debris.
