Fear grips Vasco after news item claims evacuated Indians from Iran to be stationed at Harbour

Vasco: Fear and panic gripped the port town after a news item claimed that a plane evacuating Indians from Coronavirus struck Iran would be landing in Goa. It also said that the evacuated passengers would be kept at Harbour.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat quoting District Collector claimed that there is no such move but panic refused to go off the port town.

One of Vasco residence, Jayesh Shetgaonkar in a message on whatsapp said “On the decision to keep coronavirus affected patients, Indians stranded in Iran, to keep them at MPT Old office at Harbour. This is a serious issue and in order to avoid them to get them shifted here, I urge all the people to gather at Sada Junction today at March 19 at 2.30 p.m.”

MPT Union leaders also confronted deputy chairman questioning him for allocating port premises to quarantine Indians stranded in Iran.

They were reportedly told that allocation of port premises is a part of disaster management plan which is headed by District collector.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat tweeted “South Goa Collector has categorically stated to me that there are no plans of any such flight landing in Goa. I appeal to the residents of Vasco and surrounding areas not to panic. Let us all take precautiosn to stay away from Covid-19.”
