Curtorim: The Aam Aadmi Party Curtorim team, led by constituency leader Engr. Roque Virgilio Mascarenhas visited various parts of Curtorim today to assess the extensive damage caused to standing paddy crops due to the incessant monsoon rains.
While the BJP government remains busy organising events and living in its own wonder world, the people of Goa — especially its farmers — are battling waterlogging, crop loss, and neglect.
The AAP team interacted with several farmers to understand the ground reality and the severe impact of the flooding on their livelihoods. Farmers expressed deep frustration over the government’s apathy and delayed relief, saying they feel abandoned in their time of crisis.
Many farmers pointed out that this is the second consecutive year that their fields have been devastated by floods and waterlogging. Despite repeated surveys and promises, last year’s compensation applications remain pending, with several farmers claiming that no payments have been received so far.
During the visit, the AAP Curtorim team distributed application forms for reporting crop damage to the Zonal Agriculture Office and assured farmers that AAP would personally follow up to ensure timely and fair compensation.
Farmers took the team around their flooded and damaged fields, where the standing paddy crop was completely destroyed. They appealed to the government to release compensation immediately before the next cropping season begins.
Speaking after the visit, Engr. Roque Virgilio Mascarenhas said:
“This is the second consecutive year that Curtorim’s farmers have suffered heavy losses due to floods. The government cannot continue to live in denial while our farmers suffer. A mere compensation will not do — there must be a long-term solution to prevent this recurring damage. If farmers are forced to discontinue farming, what will we eat? Goa’s food security depends on its farmers, and they deserve both respect and timely support.”
He added that the AAP will continue to stand by the farmers of Curtorim and raise their voice until every deserving farmer receives proper compensation and the government wakes up from its event-driven dream world to address the real issues faced by Goans.
