Panaji: V M Salgaocar Corporation Pvt. Ltd organized a plantation drive at Collem Village, Dharbandora Taluka to celebrate the occasion of Van Mahotsav. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr Deepak Pauskar, Hon’ble Minister – PWD, Government of Goa, Mr Paresh Parab, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Mr. Milendra Velip, Block Development Officer, Mr Manish Lambor, Sarpanch, Collem Panchayat, along with locals from Collem Village and company officials. After the plantation drive VMSalgaocar Corporation also gave saplings of fruit bearing trees to locals to encourage them to plant and nurture the trees.
Plantation drives were also held across different locations in the State of Goa during the week coinciding with Van Mahotsav between 1st to 7th of July.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Deepak Pauskar, Hon’ble PWD Minister said, “I am honoured to be present here. Today all of us should pledge to make the environs beautiful and green. We are thankful to VMSalgaocar Corporation for providing saplings and barrels and making this Vanmahotsav successful. We hope to receive continuous support from them even in future”
Addressing the people present, Mr Manish Lambor, Sarpanch, said, “I am thankful to VMSalgaocar corporation for giving me this great opportunity. Tree plantation is very important for the community and this initiative will go a long way in inculcating awareness among all about environment conservation”.
Emphasizing the need to protect and conserve the environment Mr Dattaraj V Salgaocar Chairman, VMSalgaocar Corporation Pvt. Ltd. said, “We as a responsible business organisation has always protected and conserved the environment. We propagate sustainable ways in all our business practices. I am happy to see the high enthusiasm exhibited by all who have come forth for the drive. Let us all pledge not only to plant trees but also nurture them”
The word “Vana Mahotsav” refers to the “tree-plantation ceremony”, which is celebrated every year, in the month of July, to inculcate among the general public the need for growing trees and nurturing them. VMSalgaocar Corporation Pvt Ltd has planted more than 10000 Tress at various locations in the State of Goa and has pledged to continue greening the State by planting native and other species of trees which shall give long term benefit to the local populace.
Due to the COVID pandemic situation prevailing in the entire country, the plantation drive was celebrated with total adherence to social distancing norms.
