Panaji: Utpal, son of former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, on Monday said that he has expressed his willingness to contest from Panaji Assembly seat on BJP ticket.

He said that he has already conveyed to the party about his “desire to contest.”

When asked whether he would go independent if BJP denied ticket, Utpal said “I am confident that party will give me ticket; I am holding talks with them.”

BJP had lost Panaji seat to Congress candidate Atanasio Monserratte in the by-election held after the death of Manohar Parrikar. Monserratte later joined BJP along with nine other Congress MLAs in July 2019.

Utpal said that he has been in constant touch with BJP and is confident of getting the ticket to contest from Panaji Assembly segment, which was earlier represented by his father.
