Panaji: The flight landings at the Greenfield International Airport at Mopa in North Goa will begin from September 01, 2022 onwards, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday.

Sawant said that the first phase of the Airport would be commissioned between August 15-31, 2022.

The facility is built by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited (GAL),

“The Mopa Airport project will be inaugurated sometimes between August 15 and August 31 (2022) after finalisation of the date,” Sawant said addressing a function held for Distribution of Appointment and Admission Letters of GMR Goa.

He said that the manpower is skilled by GMR Goa International Airport Limited as a part of an agreement, which will be employed at the project. Sawant said that besides the existing manpower which is recruited in the project, additional 1,000 recruitments will be done at the Airport in next six months.

The chief minister said that the GMR Goa International Airport has introduced 20 Aviation Sector courses which are affiliated to the National Skill Development Centre.

He said that these are direct recruitments under GMR company.

“State government in partnership with the GMR Goa International Airport Limited is committed in creating skilled human resource required for the project,” he said.

The chief minister appealed youths to “grab opportunities in private sector.” “Government job is not the only job. There are opportunities in the private sector. If we don’t grab them now, the youth coming from outside the state will grab them,” he commented.
