Panaji:  Goa Congress on Monday has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to roll over budget 2020-21 with special focus on reviving the economy.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, in a letter to the CM, has also demanded that state government should release white paper on financial position of Goa and pump in resources in agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, rural employment and social welfare schemes.

“Country’s projected growth of 3.5 per cent  is fallen to 1.8 per cent which will have very negative impact on Goan economy also. Goa Government revenue will fall to the extent of  35 per cent to 45 per cent. It will also create loss of earnings to small and medium businessman, Farmers, Labourers, traders, small vendors, taxi drivers, bus/truck/rickshaw/Motor cycle operators etc,” reads the letter by Chodankar.

He said that  state government is left with no option but to roll over Budget 2020-21 based on the white paper. “Though we are not experts but dare to suggest considering suggestions, while revising the budget please focusing on Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries by releasing maximum subsidies to this industry having maximum potential to revive economy,” he said.

“Simultaneously Government has to sustain all existing welfare schemes to increase spending capacity of common men by supporting livelihood. Design special packages for small and Medium businessman, Farmers, Labourers, traders, vendors, taxi drivers, bus/truck/rickshaw/M-cycle operators, tourism related operators etc.”

Chodankar said that the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and he had  time and again demanded for release of “White Paper” on Financial Status of Goa.

“But, till date you have not responded to the same. This act is most unfortunate and displays arrogance and high handedness,” he said.
“Unless a White Paper is released and expert opinions are sought on the financial crisis, it is not possible to find solutions to the economic disaster of Goa,” he said.
