Panaji: The road leading to the famous Palolem beach is in bad shape mainly due to the work related to the laying of the fibre optic cables and PWD network in the village. The recent spell of heavy rains has also brought to the fore the potholed road with locals urging for its repair. Both sides of the road have developed potholes and turned out to be uneven which has turned out to be a cause of worry for many residents. Apart from potholes, one side of the road also has mud which with the rainwater has lowered the road level, further risking the lives of commuters.

The Revolutionary Goan Taluka Co-ordinator, Prashant Pagi raised the issue saying that shoddy work carried out had left the road stretch leading to the Palolem beach in a bad and dilapidated condition with mud that was excavated being dumped on the road. He also urged and appealed to the government to ask contractors to take up the work of hot mixing only during the dry month.

“Tourist are welcomed to the Rs. 1.43 crore worth toilet built at Palolem beach after plying through this pothole ridden road. Over the last three years this road has not been hot mixed but only patchwork has been carried out. Tourists have to face a lot of hardship while walking through this road as it is muddy water is splashed on them by the commuters. Locals are also complaining of damage to their vehicles due to the condition of this road,” said Pagi.

While RG Constituency Co-Ordinator, Jivesh Pagi highlighted that the bad condition of the road is badly affecting their vehicles.

“Tourists are complaining about this bad stretch of road and it is also hampering our local business,” he said.

A local, Sanjam Naique slammed the PWD for failing to put proper work in progress sign boards and reflectors for diversion of traffic.

“Not only tourists but also lives of the locals is at risk. The BJP government has failed to fulfil their promise of carrying out development,” said Naique.
