No need for NOC from SDM to claim body of COVID-19 positive patient

Panaji/Margao: The procedure to claim body of a person who died due to covid-19 infection in Goa is now got simpler.

Dr. Madhu Ghodkirekar, Incharge South Goa District Hospital Forensic Department, in a social media post, has announced this, providing relief to the family members of those who die due to covid-19 infection.

“I  am pleased to inform every one that the procedure regarding claiming of covid death mortal remains at South Goa District hospital has simplified, with kind cooperation from North Goa and South Goa district magistrate,” he said in a statement on social media.

Dr Godhikrikar is a well renowned Forensic Expert currently heading the facility at South Goa District Hospital.

“Now there is no need for relatives to bring NOC from  Sub Divisional District Magistrate. Required formalities will be completed by the Forensic Medicine dept of South Goa District Hospital itself and there is no need for grieved family members to SDM office,” he said.

“Besides, South Goa Collectorate has arranged two hearse vans for free of cost transportation from mortuary to place of funeral any where in the state. These are beside one dedicated one EMRI hearse van for south Goa.”

“I appreciate many family members arrange their own hearse van, that helps us to provide hearse van service for those who can not effort it. I appreciate gesture of MLA Prasad Gaonkar who has started to provide his hearse van for covid dead immortal from his area.”

“Considering the rate death verses number of hearse vans available, I appeal various NGO and volunteers please try to help to aggrieved family by arranging tempos or rickshaw when hearse vans are not available.”

“Please remember that one dead body is packed in bags, they do not spread infection. Other wise private undertakers or funeral makers with demand disproportionate charges from aggrieved family members.  I am also informing all that we are providing four PPE kits free of cost, so please not do not pay for PPE kit to any one.”
