Name stand at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after ‘Francisco Monte Cruz’- LoP writes to CM

Panaji: Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat has recommended to government to name one of the stand at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatroda after Francisco Monte Cruz, former sports Minister.

In a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Kamat has said that the stadium was constructed in a record time of six months and was opened in the year 1989 during the tenure of former Sports Minister Francisco Monte Cruz..

He said that the leader had had put in lot of efforts to ensure that the stadium is completed in time to host Nehru Gold Cup- the first International Football tournament.

“His efforts with personal supervision, timely effective decisions, motivation to the team involved in the construction work yielded positive result,” Kamat said.

“The contribution of Cruz needs to be honoured in his life time by the Government. I recommend that a stand on the stadium be named as ‘Francisco Monte Cruz Stand’,” he demanded adding that the contribution of the son of soil has helped the sports fraternity immensely.

Former Benaulim MLA  Cruz was born on March 21, 1945. This year, 2019 happens to be his Platinum Jubilee year.
