Pernem : The like-minded people have raised a demand that upcoming greenfield Airport at Mopa should be named after former Bhausaheb Bandodkar.

On 12 August 2021 Shivsena members led by Subhash Kerkar installed a banner at the entrance of Mopa Airport proclaiming that it should be named after Goa’s first CM  Dayanand (Bhausaheb) Bandokar. Later they paid tribute to Dayanand Bandokar on his death anniversary.

Leaders present on the occasion were,  Shivsena leader for Pernem Subhash Kerkar, NCP leader Sanjay Barde, All Goa Private Bus Owners Association(AGPBOA) Secretary Sudip Tamhankar among other leaders.

Speaking about Bandodkar, Shivsena leader Subhash Kerkar said, “Dayanand Bandodkar commonly known as Bhausaheb bandodkkar was a bahujan stalwart, who laid the foundation stone for modern Goa.”

“Goa’s political, economical and educational infrastructure was built by Bandodkar. He was a visionary leader who endeavored to provide justice to kul mundkars,” said kerkar.

“Bhausaheb was a true Bhumiputra who was born and brought up in Pernem. Since Mopa falls under Pernem taluka Mopa airport should be name after Bhausaheb Bandodkar,” added kerkar.

Tamhankar said “India’s first motorcycle taxi pilots were regularized by bring a law in Goa, this was all possible due to Bandodkar.”

“Why is the stadium at Taleigao Plateau named after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee who has no significance in Goa? Public buildings and structures built in Goa should be named after Goan leaders” said NCP leader Sanjay Barde.

Shivsena has threatened that there will be state wide protests if the Mopa airport is not named after Bandodkar.
