Calangute: Goa Police arrested five men originally from Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai and Nepal for running IPL betting racket from a hotel in Calangute beach on Saturday.
Police spokeman said that Calangute Police conducted the raid arresting five people for accepting bets on IPL match between CSK and Royal Challengers, Bengaluru.
Calangute police arrested Manoj Thadani (Indore, MP, 39), Bunty Dangi (Indore, MP, 32), Chintu Dhoidhoy (Indore, MP, 32), Rupesh Singh (Mumbai, 41) and Jagdish Nepali (47, Nepal) while accepting bet on IPL match, operating from a hotel.
The accused persons were booked under section 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act. This is the third IPL betting case registered at Calangute Police Station within a month, he said.
The raid was conducted by PI Nolasco Raposo, PSI Rajaram Bhagkar, Head Constable Vinod Naik, Police Constable Vinay Shrivastav and others.
Cash amount of Rs 25,440/- , 15 mobile phones, 3 Laptops all worth Rs 2,50,000/- were seized by the police during the raid. Further investigation is carried out by PSI Vikas Deykar under the supervision of PI Nolasco Raposo and overall supervision of SDPO Porvorim Shri Edwin Colaco and SP North Shri Utkrisht Prasoon.
