Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira has proposed creating a “Hall of Shame” to publicly identify individuals responsible for illegal garbage dumping, after repeated instances of waste being discarded in Nachinola village in Bardez.
During a cleanliness drive held in Nachinola on Sunday morning, volunteers discovered several discarded wrappers bearing names and addresses, indicating that the waste had been deliberately dumped at the site.
Expressing concern, Ferreira said that despite repeated appeals and sustained clean-up efforts, garbage continues to be dumped in the same locations and surrounding areas. He pointed out that both dry and wet waste are being disposed of indiscriminately, worsening hygiene conditions and creating a foul stench.
Questioning the civic responsibility of those involved, the MLA said that maintaining cleanliness cannot be limited to one’s home while neglecting public spaces and village surroundings.
Calling for community participation, Ferreira urged residents to help identify individuals whose names appear on the recovered waste. He said this would help authorities trace how the garbage ended up at the site.
To deter such behaviour, the MLA announced plans to launch a “Hall of Shame” page on social media, where names and photographs of offenders may be displayed. The initiative, he said, aims to hold violators accountable and discourage further littering, while preserving the cleanliness and image of Goa.
