Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said he would make a “big announcement” in Goa on Sunday, amid speculation that his party could forge an alliance with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Kejriwal, who arrived in the coastal state on Saturday, said the announcement would be made at 3 pm on Sunday.
“I will be making a big announcement tomorrow at 3 pm. The people of Goa want a change,” he said, without divulging details of the announcement.
His visit comes against the backdrop of political activity surrounding a possible AAP-GFP alliance. Hoardings featuring the two parties jointly attacking the BJP and Congress have appeared across Goa.
The Goa Forward Party’s state executive on Saturday resolved to move towards an alliance with like-minded secular political forces to defeat the BJP in the February 2027 Assembly elections.
The development also comes as the Congress maintained that its alliance talks with the GFP were still underway.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar said the GFP had been an alliance partner of the Congress since the 2022 elections and that discussions with the party’s central leadership were continuing.
“I have confirmed with my high command even today morning. They have said that the talks for alliance are still on,” Chodankar told reporters in Panaji.
The GFP, in a social media post, said its message was clear: “Goa First.”
“Before party, before politics and before personal ambitions—Goa First,” it said, adding that it would strive to offer the people of Goa a united alternative that protects Goemkarponn and stands against corruption, communalism and the politics of defection.
