Panaji: Goa is waiting to get its consignment of COVID-19 vaccines as state is getting ready to open the vaccination for the age group below 45 years, from May 01 onwards.
State Director of Health Services Jose D’Sa told that Goa government will have to purchase from the companies, the vaccines which would be given to the people between age group of 18 till 45 years under liberalized and modified vaccination policy.
He said that Goa has placed order for five lakh vaccines with Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII).
“The SII has told us that they are not able to provide us vaccines as they have to fulfill commitment given to Government of India. As and when stock will be available, they will provide it to us,” he said.
D’Sa said that Goa is hoping that they are able to procure the vaccines before May 01 so that the vaccination can begin for the people from group below the age of 45 years.
He said that the guidelines to give vaccines to the people between 18-45 years would be notified by the centre on April 30.
