Panaji: Goa Forest Department has suspected that the Tiger which was found dead in the Kushavati District of the state was killed by a pack of wild dogs.
State Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane told reporters on Sunday that the preliminary findings by the State Forest Department officers, who are investigating the case, indicates that the tiger may have been killed by a pack of wild dogs.
The carcass of the Tiger was found at Sacordem village of Dharbadora taluka in Kushavati District last week, with its teeth and nails missing.
State Forest Department had initiated the inquiry after conducting postmortem on the partially decomposed body of the wild animal.
Rane said that the Tiger may have wandered in the forests of Goa from neighbouring Kali Tiger Reserve in Karnataka.
The minister said that the Tigers often travel to Goa’s wildlife areas from the neighbouring Karnataka. When asked about whether there are no resident Tigers in Goa, Rane said that it is for the National Tiger Conservation Authority to answer for the same.
Rane ruled out that the Tiger death was due to poaching.
“Goa’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest is investigating into the incident. We will be able to give details only after the investigation is completed,” he said.
