Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday flagged off four advanced ambulances for the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) to strengthen the state’s highway medical response system and provide faster emergency care during road accidents and disasters.
The ambulances have been procured under the Disaster Management initiative at a total cost of Rs 1.43 crore, an official statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawant said the ambulances would be deployed exclusively for Highway Medical Response so that emergency healthcare assistance reaches accident victims and other patients requiring urgent medical attention in the shortest possible time.
He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring timely lifesaving support during road accidents and emergencies across the state.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, senior officials of the health department and other dignitaries were present at the flagging-off ceremony.
The chief minister said the government remains committed to strengthening emergency healthcare infrastructure, disaster response systems and ensuring accessible medical services for the people of Goa.
According to the statement, the advanced ambulances are equipped to handle emergency situations and are expected to enhance the state’s preparedness and response capabilities during medical emergencies and disasters.
