Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday said that he has issued necessary instructions to the Health Secretary to hold review meetings with the health officers to address the situation at Cutbona jetty.
At least six labourers working at Cutbona jetty in South Goa died due to dehydration, earlier this week.
Rane said that there has been rising cases of dengue and cholera reported from Cutbona jetty after which the instruction has been issued to the Health Secretary to hold review meetings with the Health Officers to address the situation.
The minister said that the Directorate of Municipal Administration has been directed to cooperate with the health department in monitoring and controlling the issue, ensuring that both departments work together effectively.
Rane said that the arrangements for patient care have been made at both the District Hospitals and Goa Medical College and Hospital, and awareness campaigns have been organized for the fishing labor community.
The minister said that the State Food and Drugs Administration department will conduct inspections of hotels, restaurants, and roadside vendors to ensure hygiene standards are maintained.
He said that to create awareness, Directorate of Health Services has distributed pamphlets on dos and don’ts, as well as ORS kits and antibiotics, to fishing trawlers.
Rane said that the open wells are being chlorinated by the respective health centers, and multiple meetings have been held with boat owners. Separate wards have been allocated for these patients at the district hospital, and the PHC teams is closely monitoring the situation daily.
“The health services have received full coordination from other departments, including the South Collector, Panchayats, Water Resource Department, Municipalities, and PWD,” he said.
The minister said that following the instructions of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, we are committed to doing everything possible to keep the situation under control.
