Panaji: Congress party in Goa on Tuesday demanded that the exercise of community health survey scheduled to start from April 10 should be undertaken by state government only after staff involved in the survey are certified as “corona negative.”

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, in a press statement issued here has said that the frequent contradictions and consistent flip-flops by the government in policy decisions pertaining to handling of COVID-19 Pandemic has created complete mistrust and lack of confidence in the minds of the people about Dr. Pramod Sawant led BJP Government in Goa.

“In view of this Congress Party demands that the proposed Community Survey with involvement of more than 6000 staff should be undertaken only after the said staff are issued ” Corona Negative” certificates after their proper testing protocol  and they must be given Personal Protection Equipments while conducting the survey,” he said.

Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday had announced the health survey to track down suspected COVID-19 patients from April 10-13.

“It is dangerous to send 6000 plua staff in various parts of Goa without conducting their personal tests and providing them with Personal Protection Equipments,” he said.

Chodankar said that the workers  can be carriers of virus and may lead to making things worst by infecting people in Goa.

“The high risk chances of frontline workers getting corona positive if not provided with PPE are already voiced by eminent doctors from the country,” he added.
Further, Chodankar said that the party welcomes commissioning of Testing Facility in Goa, but CM should keep in mind that Community Testing is the need of the hour.
He also said that the party welcomes the announcement made by the Chief Minister to provide insurance cover to Frontline Workers and Salary incentives to them.

“We only hope that these announcements dont remain on paper, unlike commissioning of South Goa District Hospital, where work is still in progress when CM declared a week back that it is ready for use,” he added.

Congress said that the health department is literally on a shopping spree of buying Mobile Apps and other items without proper application of mind and when many such items are made available by Central Government.
