Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa on Tuesday held a protest march against the Congress party for opposing the Delimitation Bill in Parliament.
Hundreds of women workers, led by Goa Pradesh Mahila Morcha President Suvarna Tendulkar and others, marched to the Congress party office in Panaji city on Tuesday morning.
Several BJP women supporters gathered at the party office in the morning, where they were addressed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, BJP Goa President Damodar Naik, and MLAs Dr Deviya Rane and Delilah Lobo.
Addressing the gathering outside the BJP office, Sawant said that the Congress has always opposed the steps taken by the Modi-led government to provide women-centric governance.
He said that the Congress has been opposing everything, including the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which was aimed at addressing illegal immigration.
Sawant said that the Delimitation Bill was part of the effort to give representation to women from panchayat to Parliament.
He said that the Modi government wanted to give justice to women by ensuring their representation from panchayat to Parliament.
Sawant said that 273 women would have represented their areas in Parliament if the Bill had been passed.
Congress has kept these women out of Parliament by opposing the Bill, he said.
BJP Goa President Damodar Naik said that women across the country have been condemning the act of the Congress party in stopping representation for women in Parliament and Assemblies.
He said that the Congress backstabbed the trust of women.
Naik said that the Bill was named Nari Shakti Abhivandan as it aimed to empower women and give them a role in the decision-making of the country.
The BJP-led morcha later marched to the Congress office in the capital city, where they shouted slogans.
