Quepem: Congress leader Chandrakant Kavlekar today received criticism in his own constituency after Quepem taluka Shiv Sena chief Alexy Fernandes adviced him to first listen to the sentiments of the locals, before talking about the State.

Addressing a press conference, Alexy said that  much hyped ‘Jana Gana Mana: Nomon Tuka Goemkara’ campaign of Congress party fails when it comes to Quepem constituency which has remained deprived and underdeveloped due to short sighted and selfish behaviour of local MLA Babu Kavlekar.

“Kavlekar might try to be hero in the eyes of people by addressing press conferences in Panjim or by riding horse-carriage on the streets. But when it comes to his own constituency, he is a looser,” said Alexy.

“I challenge Babu to bring the same horse-carriage and ride it on the rural roads of his own constituency. The carriage will turn turtle and Babu will fall down as the roads are not repaired for ages,” he said.

Some of the areas in his constituency have remained under developed with no basic facilities reaching to the villages. Right from water to roads, there is nothing that Babu should feel proud about, he said.

“I am surprised that Babu has brought ‘Jana mana’ tour to his constituency. Does Babu require a tour to know what are the problems of the people? Why is he doing such a show off?,” he said.

The basic problem of people is Babu himself. They need a change. They need a MLA who would work for them and not for himself. People want to know how come wealth of Babu gets multiplied while people from his own community has remained poor, Alexy added.

He further demanded that the people want to know what is the truth behind matka slips that were found in his house. “People want to know whether he is connected to the illegal business of matka.”
