Babu Kavlekar appointed as Sepaktakraw Federation of India chairman

Panaji: Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has been appointed as the Chairman of Sepak Takraw Federation of India. Kavlekar was appointed unanimous at the A.G.M. of the National Body that happened on Sunday, November 29 in New Delhi.
His appointment as the head of premier body at the National level is for 2020 to 2024 period.
Besides Kavlekar, Suraj Desai has been appointed as the General Secretary of the National Body. A delegation from Goa led by Babu Kavlekar, Suraj Desai and Krishna Kharade attended the AGM and the elections in Delhi. The deputy CM was the senior Vice President of the National Federation in the outgoing committee.
In the year 2000 under the leadership of Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar this sport was introduced in Goa and he has been the president of the state association since then. Under his leadership state association has hosted 7th, 10th, 14th Subjunior Nationals and also many national tournaments in Goa.
Kavlekar’s role in introducing Sepaktakraw as a school sport was instrumental. His efforts in this sport in all these years have been noted and as a result his Candidature for National Chairmanship was unopposed said one of the members of the Federation.
While speaking about his plans as the head of this sport’s apex body in India, Kavlekar said, “Goa is already doing good in this sport. My main goal will be to popularize this sport all over. We will have a team of Goa police to play nationals. Also, efforts will be made to popularize this sport in Defence Services and I have already spoken to Hon Raksha Rajya Mantri Shripad Naik, about this.”
