Dona Paula: The authorities on Monday demolished an encroachment inside the land owned by the Information and Technology Department at Dona Paula plateau, allegedly by an influential person.
Sources stated that an influential person owning Goa’s oldest newspaper had encroached on land earlier acquired for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat project.
Deputy Collector of Tiswadi Rajesh Ajgaonkar had issued a show-cause notice to an unknown person after receiving a representation from Goa Infotech Corporation of Goa Limited. The representation stated that there was encroachment and illegal construction by unknown persons on the property bearing survey number 236/1 of Taleigao village panchayat. The property belongs to GICG and was earmarked for a clubhouse and residential complex in the master plan prepared for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat, Dona Paula.
Tarred Road, Compound Wall Found in Encroached Area
Engineers from the Infotech Corporation of Goa, during their inspection, observed encroachments, including the construction of a black-topped road. They also noticed an unauthorized, illegal compound wall and a gate with two columns had been built by an unknown person.
The notice also claimed that the illegal construction of a compound wall had been carried out in an area earmarked as an open space in the master plan of the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat.
The notice, issued on February 18, had given the respondent seven days to file a response.
Why wasn’t the property compounded and secured by the property owner?
