Panaji : Goa is witnessing an alarming spurge in COVID19 case, as some people observe self restraint the government has declared night curfew from 10 PM to 8 AM. Public places are told to function with 50% capacity.
The renowned Onco-Surgeon and Chief Department of Oncology, Manipal Hospital Dr Shekhar Salkar shed some light on what steps could be taken by state as well as general public to effectively remedy the situation that we are all in.
While speaking to press Dr Said “All doctors and patients need to take advantage of the technology, many patients have sent me their SpO2 level count through message, they video call me, I ask them to walk which i try to monitor through video call & i determine their condition” said Dr Salkar.
“People need to observe home isolation properly, this year when one person gets infected in the family the whole family gets infected this is happening because he is not following isolation properly” said Dr Salkar. He added saying when one family member gets infected he needs to stay in an individual room and use a separate bathroom etc.
This year there is no doubt spurge in cases as compared to last year but also the immunity of people is increasing, “When many people get infected with the virus, the immunity of people also increase, here we need to focus that the death rate reduces, infectivity will rise as people need to get out of their houses for jobs, but death rate should reduce”
Dr Salkar opined that death rate will reduce only if no. of beds are increased in hospitals, once people get infected they panic and get themselves admitted thereby occupying a bed which could have been used for another person who needed it the most. “I have suggested the government to constitute a central team who can monitor and keep a track record of beds in hospitals” Said Dr Salkar.
