Panaji: Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao on Saturday extended Diwali greetings to the Hindu community, calling for stronger bonds of fraternity, mutual respect and communal harmony in Goa.

In a message issued on the occasion of Diwali, Ferrao, along with Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes, conveyed greetings to Hindu brothers and sisters on behalf of the Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman.

Diwali reminds people of “the triumph of light over darkness and truth over untruth”, the Archbishop said.

“As homes light up with traditional diyas, we are called to kindle love and compassion within our hearts,” he said.

Referring to the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Ferrao said there was a shared responsibility to forge pathways of peace, adding that true peace was built through authentic dialogue, mutual respect and everyday encounters.

“Goa stands as a beacon of communal harmony. Let us use this festive season to strengthen our bonds of fraternity, working hand-in-hand to dispel prejudice and care for one another,” he said.

He expressed hope that the festival of lights would enlighten people’s hearts and bring lasting peace, health and happiness to all families.
