Panaji: Hours after the Congress leadership named Girish Chodankar as the new Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, outgoing chief Amit Patkar on Friday said his “fight for Goa” would continue, stressing that public service transcends positions and titles.

In a message issued last night, soon after the leadership change, Patkar said the true strength of the movement lies “not in titles or positions, but in the unwavering spirit of those who refuse to give up on Goa and its people.”

Reflecting on his four-year tenure, he said he had the privilege of travelling across the state and working alongside party workers, supporters and citizens committed to safeguarding Goa’s identity and ensuring justice for its people.

“Together, we stood shoulder to shoulder, not for personal gain, but for a larger cause — to protect Goa’s identity, preserve its unique culture, defend the rights of its people, and ensure that the voice of every Goan is heard,” he said.

Patkar emphasised that the journey was never about an individual but about the collective effort of party workers who remained steadfast during challenging times and continued to raise issues concerning the state.

He said the party under his leadership had consistently taken up matters affecting farmers, youth, women, fishermen, workers and other sections, while highlighting concerns related to Goa’s interests.

“The responsibility to serve does not come from a position; it comes from conviction, purpose, and a deep sense of duty towards society,” he added.

Signalling his continued political engagement, Patkar said his commitment to Goa and its people remains unchanged, asserting that “the journey continues, the mission continues, and the fight for Goa’s future continues.”
