Colvale: A murder under-trial prisoner at Colvale Jail in Goa succumbed to the COVID-19 infection inside the prison premises on Sunday night, a senior official said.
Yellappa Karbal, who was imprisoned for a murder, collapsed inside the covid cell of the Colvale Jail on Sunday evening, a senior official said.
He said that the accused was kept in a special cell inside the jail designated to house the COVID-19 infected prisoners.
The jail officials said that the accused fell unconscious in the prison after which he was shifted to North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa town, where he was declared brought in dead.
The accused was being tried before District and Sessions Court in Margao after being charged of a murder.
