Panaji: Police on Wednesday arrested three Maharashtra based youths for trying extort money from State PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar after threatening to kill him.

Panaji Police Inspector Sudesh Naik said that all the three youth were arrested at the official residence of Pauskar on Wednesday where they had arrived to collect the extortion amount.

He said that all the three —  Rishikesh Patil 27

Pravin Naik  28 and Amol Sami 28 – are hailing from Sangli in Maharashtra.

They are booked under section 384 of Indian Penal Code for extortion.

When contacted, Pauskar said that he was receiving threatening calls from Mumbai and Dubai on different occasions during past few days.

“They were threatening me that they would defame and even kill me. I had ignored their calls initially, but later decided to hand them over to the police,” the minister said.

The extortionists were demanding Rs three crore from the minister.

He said that the trap was laid this afternoon when they had sent these youth to collect the money.

Pauskar said that more people are involved in the case, while those who are arrested had just come to collect the money.
