Panaji: After successfully covering Goa, country’s one of the pioneering ‘roadside motor vehicle repair’ start-up plans to expand its operations pan-India.
Mech Giri, which is registered under central government’s Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), is one of the country’s first start ups which provides ‘roadside motor vehicle repair’ assistance to the consumers through dedicated App.
Goa-based Vasant Salgaonkar who is the brain behind the start-up said that during last three years of their inception, they have covered 54 locations in the coastal state empanelling 250 garages.
Salgaonkar said that the App named ‘Mech Giri’ has hundreds of download since 2016, when it was introduced first, and since then the numbers are increasing.
“The basic idea behind designing the App was to ensure that no one is stranded on the road due to absence of mechanic to repair their vehicle,” said Salgaonkar, who has some of the garages operating round the clock.
The venture is named after his brother Girish who was known as “Mechanic Girish” hence the abbreviation “Mech Giri.”
Salgaonkar said that few of the venture capitalist companies have shown their keen interest in investing into the start-up, which will help the promoters to take it pan-India.
“The dream was always to take the venture across India by empanelling lakhs of garages so that entire country benefits out of it,” he said.
Goa State Innovation Council Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that this App is one of the first such venture in the country.
“What makes it special for Goa is that it is a home grown start-up. Everyone who is associated with it is a local,” he said.
“It is a local start up with national and international reach,” he added.
