Panaji: In an initiative to spread awareness on mental health, the Goa Post Office has released a special envelope and a cancellation stamp on the topic “Take care of your mental health to fight Covid-19”. The envelope and cancellation is sponsored by the Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society – an ancient currency as well as a stamp collector.
Speaking to GNH, Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society Dr M Ramesh Kumar said, “The pandemic has created a panic among the people and sitting at home idle also sometimes leads to mental health issues. Besides meditation and relaxation, having a hobby is good for the mental health. And I think, philately is one of the best hobbies that can be done sitting at home. Thus, we came together and launched these special tickets to spread awareness on mental health.”
The envelope and special cancellation were released by Dr Sudhir Jakhere, Senior Superintendent, Panaji Office, Goa Postal Department and Dr Abhijit Nadkarni, President, Psychiatric Society of Goa. Secretary of Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society, Ashlesh Kamat and officials of Postal Department were present on the occasion.
Besides, the Goa Post Office has also issued another cancellation ticket with the slogan, “Join in the search for contacts to fight Covid” with pictures of Contact Trail and Health Bridge. This initiative is being implemented to create awareness about Covid-19. To control Covid infection, contact tracing is an effective way to prevent the spread of the disease by detecting the patient and all persons who come in contact with the patient. This includes instructing patients to stay in isolation and those in contact to stay in isolation.
“Take care of your mental health to fight Covid-19” is a silver cancellation. The price of this special envelope is Rs. 25.
The special cancellation stamp “Participate in finding contacts to fight Covid” has been stamped on all items at the Panaji and Margao post offices. The special cancellation will be available in red for five days from today and in green for the next five days at the Panaji head office.
