South Goa District Hospital to be next COVID facility from Friday onwards

Margao: Health Department has decided to convert its South Goa District Hospital situated at Margao into COVID-19 hospital.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said that the South Goa District hospital with 250 beds would be designated as COVID hospital to treat the positive patients.

He said that the facility in South Goa’s Margao town would be operationalised by Friday.

Rane said that the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Directorate of Health Services (DHS) will have an integrated team to work at the COVID hospital, which will comprise of a pool of medical officers, expert doctors, nurses and medical technical staff.

He said that two dedicated ambulances would be stationed at the hospital to shift critical patients to ESI hospital located few kilometers away or to GMC near Panaji.

Rane said that the Old Hospicio hospital building, which was being vacated after new Sub District Hospital was constructed in same town, would be reverted back as a District Hospital.

The health minister said that final-year nursing students to be deployed at non-covid health care centres to release experienced nurses for COVID duty.

“As per directions of Medical Council of India, final year MBBS students to be deployed as residents,” he said.
