Margao: Shadow Council for Margao today visited the Sonsodo dumpyard along with Mechanical engineers and people who are into waste management in Goa.
The purpose of the visit was to check upon the status at the plant so as to assess the conditions and submit suggestions to the Council, for the effective operation and management of the plant.
“The primary and most issue noticed by us was that the waste supplied/lying inside the plant, just can’t be considered as wet waste. Huge quantity of plastic and other dry waste is mixed in this waste”, SCM Convener Savio Coutinho stated.
“Roof sheets are broken as such rain water enters the plant, hampering the drying process of the waste”, Coutinho lamented.
When lakhs and lakhs of public funds are spent on the waste management, it is very disheartening to see that the mess is still far away from being solved, he stated further.
We will give our suggestions in writing to the Council and with a hope that they will act on it positively, he concluded
